Driver survives car wreck only to be stung by own bees in Australia

SYDNEY: A driver in Australia escaped injury when his four-wheel drive overturned only to be stung by a swarm of the bees he was transporting, broadcaster ABC reported Friday.

The 18-year-old was towing a trailer of bee hives on a highway in the Northern Territory when a wheel hit the curb and the car flipped over, releasing the insects, police said.

"The bees became very angry and they escaped and as he was crawling out of the vehicle miraculously uninjured he got stung by the bees," police superintendent Louise Jorgensen was quoted as saying.

She said the bees were more of a problem that the wreckage for police and fire crews were called to the scene. – dpa
