PETALING JAYA: The online petition made to the White House requesting the United States government to intervene in Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's imprisonment has been removed by the website's administration due to 'terms violation'.
The 100,000 targeted signature petition which was due to expire on March 12 was removed after reaching the 97,000 mark.
Users who visited the site were instead greeted with an empty background and a notice that reads - "Thanks for your interest in 'We the People', a new tool on WhiteHouse.gov that allows all Americans to ask the Obama Administration to take action on a range of important issues facing our country.
"The petition you are trying to access has been removed from the site under our Moderation Policy because it is in violation of our Terms of Participation."
The exact reason for removal was however not specified.
Since last night, DAP MPs have been campaigning extensively to garner the necessary signatures on social media and were successful in acquiring almost 30,000 signatures in less than 24 hours.
Checks by theSun on the official US Embassy Kuala Lumpur Facebook page saw multiple postings from netizens voicing their disagreement and demanding for an explanation on the petition's removal.
The petition was launched by former US ambassador to Malaysia, John R. Malott last month on Feb 10 after Anwar's conviction and imprisonment on a sodomy charge.
As of Jan, 15 2013, the terms of participation states that a petition must reach 100,000 signature within 30 days to cross two thresholds and be eligible for a response.
