Google's desire to go head-to-head with Apple and Samsung in the
smartphone market has been made abundantly clear with the unveiling of the
Pixel 2 and its corresponding earbuds.
The new Pixel Buds have some impressive functions, including real-time
translation in 40 languages, which can be accessed through the Google Assistant
simply by tapping on the right earbud.
The phone, which also comes in XL, features the new Google Lens
function, which can recognise and give more information on subjects being
photographed.
The Pixel 2, which comes in three colours, is
set to start at US$649 for the 64GB version, or US$849 for the same version of
the XL. The company plans to begin shipping out its phones on Oct 17. The
corresponding earbuds are expected to go out in November and have a price tag
of US$159. — dpa
