PATTANI: Four policemen were among six people injured, one seriously, when a bomb exploded about 500 metres from the Saiburi police station here early today.

The rest were members of the public who happened to be in Taluban Town when a home-made bomb weighing five kilogrammes was triggered about 6.30am.

Saiburi district police chief, Pol Col Panya Karawanan said the incident occurred when four policemen were providing security for two Buddhist priests.

He said one of the policemen was seriously injured in the blast.

"The bomb was placed in a metal box and hidden in a garbage bin. It was triggered using a walkie-talkie," he added.

Yesterday, security authorities issued an alert to the public as March 13 was the 55th anniversary of the National Revolution Front, one of the separatist groups in southern Thailand.
