U.S. trio win Nobel for finding Einstein's gravitational waves

STOCKHOLM/LONDON (Reuters) - Three U.S. scientists won the 2017 Nobel prize for physics on Tuesday for opening up a new era of astronomy by detecting gravitational waves, ripples in space and time foreseen by Albert Einstein a century ago. The work of Rainer Weiss, Barry Barish and Kip Thorne crowned half a century of experimental efforts by scientists and engineers. Measuring gravitational waves offers a new way to observe the cosmos, helping scientists explore the nature of mysterious objects including black holes and neutron stars. It may also provide insight into the universe's very earliest moments. The first detection of the waves created a scientific sensation when it was announced early last year and the teams involved in the discovery had been widely seen as favourites for Tuesday's prize. US boy, 8, hammered to death, allegedly by mum's ex, while protecting sister from being molested by him

CALIFORNIA: An eight-year-old boy in South Sacramento, California, was beaten to death with a hammer, allegedly by his mother's former boyfriend, while defending his younger sister from being molested by him. Dante Daniels was killed by Deandre Chaney Jr, 23, on Sept 1, while trying to protect his sister Danae, seven, reported The Daily Mail. Chaney is also said to have turned the hammer and a knife on Danae and their mother Elizabeth Salone, 28. He allegedly also used lighter fluid on them. After the attack, Dante was declared brain dead, and died six days later. Chaney faces murder and attempted murder charges, along with a charge for lewd acts with a child under the age of 14. According to FOX40, Dante was a third-grade pupil at Oakridge Elementary, and the day of the attack was supposed to be his second day at school.
