JAPANESE carmaker Mazda announced that production of it all-new and fourth generation MX-5 roadster has commenced in the firm’s main plant located in Hiroshima, Japan.
Also known as the Mazda Roadster in the Japanese domestic market, Mazda stated that sales of the new MX-5 in Japan are slated to begin sometime in June this year. The firm also stated that the model will be introduced into other global markets gradually following its domestic home market introduction.
As previously reported, the new Mazda MX-5 adopts the Mazda brand’s current Kodo design language and groundbreaking Skyactiv Technology suite. Two variants will be offered, one powered by a 1.5-litre Skyactiv petrol four-cylinder mill with 129hp and the other harnessing power from a larger 2.0-litre petrol unit that reportedly generates 155hp.
Additionally, Mazda revealed that by the end of January this year, production of the MX-5 model has exceeded 950,000 units. This then allows the Mazda MX-5 to retain the world record as the world’s best-selling two-seater sports car.
